My Sentence

She wipes off her sweat and tears and says, "Let's try it again" with a warm smile and a focused mind.

The End of The Giver

The ending of The Giver, many say, is very controversial. Did baby Gabriel and Jonas die? or did they find that place which is described in the end as Elsewhere. What is your belief? In the beginning of chapter 23, Jonas feels that elsewhere was not far from where he was, but had little hope he would make it there. By then Jonas was hungry, very weak and cold. Jonas then tries to warm Gabriel up to keep him alive and says, " We're almost there, Gabriel. I remember this place"(177). This statement may make you believe it is the end of them but, the story goes on, "The wind was bitterly cold. The snow swirled, blurring his vision. But somewhere ahead, through the blinding storm, he knew there was warmth and light" (178). This sentence has plenty of detail that is occurring in the scene, yet it confuses a bit. One, because it says Jonas knew there was something ahead. This mean Jonas could be simply imagining so he can keep going and not give up. Second, he can actually still be having feeling and is actually experiencing warmth ahead and somehow seeing light. As the ending progresses, " Jonas found the sled that was waiting for them at the top of the hill. Numbly his hands fumbled for the rope" (178). Was the sled actually there? The author describes the ending as something very pleasant. It could be that the author wanted to end it happily since Jonas was a kid and Gabriel an infant. Or did they actually make it and left behind him, " ..vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo" (179) ? what do you believe was the ending , did they survive or did they die?

The Giver

I came across this video on youtube, it reviews the book fairly well. Take a look at it ! :)

The Giver - Chapter 13

In the end of chapter 12 in The Giver, the Giver tells Jonas he will help him with the colors.
"Close your eyes and be still, now. I'm going to give you a memory of a rainbow " (96). In chapter 13, Jonas is given plenty of colorful memories. From glimpses of a green lawn, orange pumpkins, dark and light skin colors and red blood. Jonas soon became angry at the thought of not being able to see colors all along.
The Giver explained to him how it wouldn't be safe if the community was to have choices. "It's safer.""yes," Jonas agreed."Much safer" (99). As the chapter progresses Jonas learns the sound of rage and grief, that the Giver once had a spouse, and more about his future as a receiver. Jonas in the end of the chapter asks the Giver something that silences him. "Giver," he asked one afternoon...,"what causes you pain?" (107). The Giver then states he shall no longer wait, he needs to show Jonas more and takes him to the hill again.

What Makes You Beautiful Ladies?

I don't absolutley agree with this quote in this image, but the last line spoke to me plenty. I believe everyone's minds are beautiful. They are all unique and full of different ideas. When someone believes their minds are the sexiest thing about themselves, everything else is secondary. It makes you believe everything else about you is beautiful too. There's no need to modify your body, or wear tons of make-up, or spend lots of money to get that "perfect" smile. The most important thing is getting your mind focused, aware, powerful ! The brain is the most powerful part of the body, without we are nothing.

I chose this advertisement/image because it's very creative.
It makes you think twice and actually pay attention to the details. This advertisement shows a healthy, active young woman kicking a cigarette down. It's spreading awarness and also wants smokers to quit. I think of myself as an active person; I like sports and being healthy. As an active person, I am aware of the side effects one may encounter when smoking. I believe that it effects an athlete in many ways and one should stay away from any type of tabacco or seek help to quit. It's something that's addicting and can cause serious health problems in the long run. Although Tabacco products' price have rose by 10% this year, smoking is still a big issue in America. Every year in the U.S. more than 392,000 people die from tabacco, making it the leading cause of preventable death. Another 500,000 people die because of secondhand smoke. It's an eye opener, and this image right here is aswell.
